How to Publish a Chrome Extension to the Chrome Web Store
Who’s there
Chrome users searching the store for a tool that does one job.
You build
A small extension that does one thing from your product.
Read https://indiehustles.com/marketplaces/chrome-web-store and look at our product and codebase. Is Chrome Web Store a good opportunity for us? If it is, tell me what we'd build for it, the smallest version worth listing, and how much work it would take. Wait for my go-ahead before building.
Steps
- 1
Build a small extension that does one thing from your product.
- 2
Register in the Chrome Web Store Developer Dashboard and pay the one-time fee.
- 3
Zip the extension with
manifest.jsonat the root and upload it. - 4
Fill in the listing: description, icon, screenshots, privacy details and why you need each permission.
- 5
Submit for review.
Good to know
- The link to your site is nofollow. The value is the page itself, not the link.
- Fewer permissions mean a faster review.
- The same zip works on Edge, and on Firefox with small changes.
